Zambia, 2016 Returning

October 13, 2015

We are off again in 2016 to do more of God’s work. We will be joining a team from the Chicago Heights Church of the Nazarene and will return to Zambia to continue working on a project some of the team helped with in 2012 at the Africa South East Field Conference and Training Center. It is located in the country side outside the capitol city of Lusaka.

The project is described in the Nazarene Work and Witness website as follows:
This project will serve on many levels for the Africa Central Field (ACF). It will be a multi-purpose facility for use for meeting the many training needs as the Church grows quickly on the ACF. It will provide needed facilities for leadership and discipleship development, district assembly, extension education, youth meetings, women’s meetings, men’s meetings, children’s development programs, and will provide an ideal training for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries training, especially agricultural training. It will be located ideally on the main commerce route and bus routes serving the entire field as well as being located almost geographically in the center of the field that includes Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This conference and training center will save the field in having to rent facilities for these meetings. The facility can also be rented out and it is projected to be a self-supporting center within the first couple years. The center is projected to include dormitory style housing, kitchen/ cafeteria, classrooms, and conference hall seating up to 800-1,000. The property will also have agriculture projects and fruit-growing projects under Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. The property of 20 acres is currently home to the Chipongwe Nazarene Church which is one of the first Nazarene Churches in Zambia
Phase 1 is under way with the starting of the first dorm building and cafeteria building. This dorm building is about 70% completed. The second building is the cafeteria and work was started on the foundation in 2014 and the walls and roofing will be completed in 2015 or 2016. Currently, we need teams with all types of building skills from plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, welders, concrete finish, tile layers (floors and walls), etc. This is a great project for a small or large team and we have many ministry opportunities with the nearby villages, especially with children. One team split to enhance the team’s skills with part of the team working on the building project and the other part doing evangelism in the villages and holding a VBS for children, while the whole team still was involved with the building project. This allowed the team to have a true “Work” and “Witness” experience.

After being there in 2012 I am excited to see the progress that has been made in the last three years. I am also hoping to meet some of the same people we met on the last visit. The team conducted a Vacation Bible School and over 100 children showed up from surrounding villages. It was a great time for all with crafts, music and bible stories.

Wherever I go I see that God has been there and what a great thing to see his family growing in leaps and bounds in Central Africa.
