Oklahoma City, 2013, Part Five

November 7, 2013

Well today is our last day to work before we see some sights and head back to Michigan. The first task is to finish up the two houses in Norman, Oklahoma. After breakfast and Devotions at the Harvest Church we headed back to Norman to work on Judy’s and Dorothy’s house. We finished up the siding on the front of the house and painted the door and window trim brown to go with the new siding.

As the work continues our team leader met with a local pastor who asked if we would go to another house to see if we could help with a barn that was mostly destroyed in the tornado. Him and a couple of team members went to see what could be done in the afternoon we had left while the rest of us stayed to finish this project. Judy and Dorothy fired up the grill and provided a great lunch for us at Dorothy’s house. We all enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgs and chips as well as an opportunity to fellowship with them both as well as the rest of the family.

After lunch we finished the trim paint on the front of the house and finished repairing the water damage under the second window.

After having a final prayer with Judy and Jordan we loaded up and headed for the last project. This was a horse farm in the country where the women who owned it had her house removed by the tornado and the barn roof gone. She still had a small house to live in but no protection for the horses. The three people that left for this project were hard a work replacing the roof boards so a new metal roof could be installed.

As much as we would have liked to finish the job, we were out of time and needed to head back to the barracks for a god night sleep before we left for home the next day. As in all of the work trips I have joined for the Lord I still find them rewarding and can feel the love of the people we help. It’s hard to imagine how loosing a home or experiencing major damage can effect you when you have no means to fix the problems.

The Bible says in Ezekiel 34:12 “As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.” If we are truly the hands and feet of the Lord it is our place to look after His sheep wherever they are.
