Denmark 2013, Day Two

August 19, 2013

It’s Saturday so it’s up early and of to the Church for breakfast. We were staying at pastor Kaj Ove’s house with wife Susanne and daughter Jane. We enjoyed the deck on the back of the house overlooking the back yard with a garden, small fish pond and apple trees. In addition to working on the coffee house we will also be doing some maintenance work on the Greve Church.

At the church the missionary, Katie, and some of the ladies fix us a great breakfast. We all shared a devotional done by one of the team and then it was off to work. The project consisted of two parts, the first was to complete some remodeling at the coffee house and the second was to do some painting and maintenance work on the church grounds.

Some of us stayed at the church and cut out some shelves that will be used at the coffee house in the kitchen to store supplies. Most of the team headed for the coffee house to clean out a store room that will be converted into a meeting and activity room for guests in the coffee house. Others will work on remodeling a store room into an office, then we will remove all of the stored materials and remodel a smaller store room. Some of the people will assist in the coffee house during operating hours.

The store room above has a window boarded up behind the large safe which we will open up to get some light in the room. The people who were at the church returned to the coffee house for lunch with the shelves they had cut from large sheets of board. After lunch the demolition of the meeting room began with the removal of the ceiling and removing the old wallpaper and loose plaster from the end wall.

It is the practice to have a church service at the coffee house on Saturday afternoon for anyone in the neighborhood that would like to attend. The team stopped working and joined the local people for the afternoon service.

We were told the story of how they looked for a building for the coffee house and having an agreement on a building then the owner of the building backed out and the search began again. After praying many times this building became available and the dream of a coffee house became real for the people from the Greve church.

We were all invited back to the Church for a spaghetti dinner and then it was of to our housing for a good nights sleep.

It’s great to see that God is moving in Denmark, and that you are able to be such a big help!
