Alaska 2012, Part Five

August 23, 2012

The weather here is great except we did not come prepared for the cold nights. Most of us brought light sleeping bags, but the cabins we were staying in had no heat of electricity so when it gets down in the low forties or high thirties we were cold. The bible says in 1 John 5:14: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”The pastor asked the people from the church for some blankets for us and we ended up with more blankets than we could use. After that we could snuggle up in out sleeping bags and borrowed blankets and get a good nights sleep.

This gave us the energy to continue our work projects with renewed vigor. The new handicap ramp was starting to take shape. The work crew started to put in the posts and supports needed to hold the ramp.

Some of the foundation we were to use needed to be brought back to level with the world.

The new upper deck starts to take shape

A lower deck for the ramp gets started

In the meantime another group was told about another goal of the Two Rivers church. Pastor Bob told of the plans to grow the church from its current membership of about 50 people to a new level of over 100 people. The problem was there was not enough seating for that many people. The solution to this was to remove the large platform in the front of the church, which would allow them to add more seating as the congregation grew. So it was off to work for another crew to accomplish this goal.

Platform to be removed

The demolition starts

And it continues

The Platform is gone waiting for sub-flooring and finished floor

So now things are going well and the weekend is approaching. Our schedule calls for a trip to Denali National Park tomorrow so It’s off to bed looking for some excitement tomorrow.
