Alaska 2012, Part One

July 22, 2012

I am off on my next adventure for the Lord to Alaska. I will be traveling with a team from Richland Center, Wisconsin to the Two Rivers Church of the Nazarene. This is a small church just east of Fairbanks Alaska. The team has agreed to replace their handicap ramp, painting, hang some new doors and windows, remove and replace the platform in the front of the church, remodel the nursery, making curtains, installing lights, smoke detecors and many other small tasks.

As we arrive in Alaska at Fairbanks after midnight and it is still light out, we meet the Church pastor and his wife, Bob and Renee’ Sugden. Bob, Renee’ and the congregation currently has about 60 members and has a goal of growing up to 100 members in the next few years.

After midnight in Fairbanks, Alaska

By two AM the rest of the team arrived, most from Wisconsin but some from Michigan, Illinois, Arizona and Ohio. Were were furnished two busses and a van from the Wasilla Lake Christen School in Wasilla, Alaska and we were to stay at a rustic state campground in cabins. There was only electricity in the kitchen and shower rooms, none in the cabins so it was cool sleeping at night.

Our ride for the trip.

This is the largest team that I have ever served on at 37 people so a lot of us were wondering if there would be enough work to keep us busy.

Our first task is to try to get some sleep in the land of the midnight sun in, let’s just say, cool weather with too light a sleeping bag.
