The Philippines, Day Three

September 29, 2011

Well it seems that Typhoon Pedring (international name Nesat) is over and we all escaped without any problems. There was a lot of rain and wind last night and there were a lot of leaves and branches down but no serious damage on the campus.
The team continues our work hanging, taping and muddling drywall in the Cobb Worship Center. We are also working on another building that has some housing on the first floor, will be work and witness dormitories on the second floor and kitchen facilities on the third floor. We are working on installing electrical plugs, switches and light fixtures in the kitchen and dining areas of the third floor. Some of the team are building a wall to inclose a secure storage area it the building as well.

We had the opportunity to meet two students from Myanmar  today at dinner They shared with us some of the issues they face there where 90% if the people are Buddhist and told us about the region’s where they live. Both are pastors and are working for a degree in theology. They told us of stories of how the government would not allow christen’s to build churches there and how people would treat them different because they were not Buddhist.

There are many lush green plants here including orchids growing wild. The campus is in the city but far from down town. We are next to a busy street which has a lot of traffic all day and night.
